Back when I was still racing my skyline i dragged from a green light one evening and couldn't find 2nd gear...turned out the pressure plate had snapped in half... drove home in 4th gear that night.
After upgrading to a button clutch I asked to test my car against a friends modified 4door 2.8 skyline. He was running similar mods to mine but with a slightly more aggressive cam. Big difference was my triple 45mm sidedrafts against his 38/38 weber downdraft carb.
We meet at a local garage and head to a nearby stretch of road.
Run 1... We go rolling in 1st gear and I open 1 car, into 2nd another 2 cars....by the end of 4th I am so far ahead the gap is 2 big to judge, possibly 8 to 10 cars.
Run2... We stage at the robot. Robot hits green and he takes the launch with me sitting at his rear bumper, into 2nd and I level fast and edge him...into 3rd and I start pulling away fast. ..by the end of 4th I am about 5 to 6 cars ahead when we tap.
His 2.8 was no match for mine that evening and I advise him that the small 38/38 weber could possibly be 2 small and is choking his engine..He says he has a set of triple dellorto dhla 40mm sidedrafts that he needs to get fitted. I'm sure once those went on his car pulled much stronger if they were jetted and tuned properly.
